Das Clown (1999)
Director: Tom E. Brown
Writer: Tom E. Brown
Cast: John Popper, Tom E. Brown, Richard Goodman, Jaye King
Mr. Higgins runs an antique store in middle America. He is lonely and wishes that Sparkles, a clown doll that came from Germany at the end of World War II, would come to life and play with him. On the night before Memorial Day weekend, while Mr. Higgins is working late, a wind comes through the store and a book, written in a strange language, appears next to the clown. Mr. Higgins sits down to read the pages aloud where the wind has opened the book. It's an incantation, and Sparkles comes to life. The next morning, sheriff's deputy Harlen stops by to say howdy and finds a bloody scene. He draws his gun and calls the paramedics. What has been going on? Is there any hope?

Anyone who remembers the start introduction to the old British childrens television show Bagpuss will know the style of this film, its not really moving images but done in a storyboard style with photos, and oddly it works. Storys about a lonely old antique store owner who brings a wwII clown doll to life. Only the clowns a real wacko and kills everyone who comes into the store. Highly entertaining short clearly made at cost is the kind of film troma dream of making. Was originally streamed for ICF's short film showcase, you can watch the whole short on yotube in the link below.

The Cycle (2003)
aka El Ciclo
Director: Víctor García
Writer: Víctor García
Cast: Jacob Torres
A naked, blood-soaked man throws a corpse into a dimly lit basement. The cadaver lands against another body and we realize that corpses are not exactly scarce here. Everything we see seems to suggest a pattern, a cycle. Just wait.
IMDB Page

Disturbing and gory 8 minute body horror short from Spain, that packs more punch per minute than Mike Tyson did in his prime. Fans of David Cronenberg and Clive Barker will lap this up. Plots really simple about a man with something to hide in his basement, he regenerates finally becoming the new creatures secret to hide in the basement. Víctor García builds up the atmosphere well and like Eduardo Rodriguez proved with his awesome short Daughter hes a name to look out for. He has a new feature due in 2009 called Slaughter and on the strengh of this short it'll be one of next years highlights.

The Devil's Curse (2007)

The Devil's Curse (2007)
aka Credo
Director: Toni Harman
Writer: Alex Wakeford
Cast: Colin Salmon, MyAnna Buring, Stephen Gately, Clayton Watson
A modern supernatural horror film that explores the dark side of the human psyche, and the terror in facing up to one's darkest fears. Set in London, England, the film begins with a group of theological students who decide to test their faith by proving the existence of Hell. Following their ritualistic summoning of a demon, the students are all found dead, apparently by suicide. Years later, a group of five final-year students are evicted from their student digs and break into the now abandoned Catholic halls of residence for the weekend, only to discover that they're not alone.
IMDB Page
Five students Jock (the wild party one) Scott (the computer geek one) Jazz (the tag along one) Timmy (the angst ridden lesbian one) Alice (studious hard working one) get kicked out of their digs after throwing a party, they end up taking up residence in an old run down theology college. Only problem is that the place is haunted by the spirit of something that was unleased during a demonic summoning by five past students of the college. Substandard horror nonsense that even the great MyAnna Buring as Alice (who was in the wonderful Neil Marshall films Descent & Doomsday and also played Scooti in Doctor Who) can't save, though its hardly erotic slight reward for fans is we get a very brief lesbian kiss. The actors try do the best they can, given the dull script. Clearly some of the flaws are down to the low budget of £750,000, but that aside the director should of done much better as the films so disappointingly paced making 90s minutes seem like 900. Best avoided if you really want a great English based demon/devil film go watch 'To the Devil a Daughter' or 'The Devil Rides Out'.
