Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009)
Director: Patrick Tatopoulos
Writers: Danny McBride, Dirk Blackman
Cast: Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy, Rhona Mitra, Steven Mackintosh
The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor, the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja, in his battle against the Vampire army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.

Amiable prequel to Underworld sways more towards medieval fantasy than gun toting werewolves v vampires (like the original and its sequel). Bill Nighy scene steals everything hes in with a repeat of his role as Viktor the lord of the vampires who in this uses the werewolves - lycans as slaves. Lycans for obvious reasons want to rise above this slavery and in a very Braveheart way fight back. Entertainingly made with above average production values for an horror movie, if you're looking more for an horror version of Lord Of The Rings than to be scared then this should suit you just a shame Kate Beckinsale was missing.
