A fantasy horror, Outcast finds Irish traveller Mary and her shy teenage son Fergal on the run and hiding out on an Edinburgh housing estate. Mary's supernatural capabilities have drawn the attention of the mysterious, tattooed Cathal, who is intent on hunting her down using his powers of black magic. When Fergal falls for the feisty Petronella, Mary does all she can to suppress the budding relationship, sensing that the final showdown with Cathal is drawing near.
