REVIEWED

"Don't worry whatever this is, its the beluga of politically correct plasma."

Party Guest

Pedestrian paced bloodsucker about a decadent elite group of vampires, who've long since given up dining on humans. Djuna is lonely having spent years by herself. She decides to turn Paolo, so he can become her new lover. Only their affair is cut short when her rebellious sexually charged vamp sister Mimi turns up and causes chaos.

Kiss of the Damned is the debut feature from Xan Cassavetes, daughter of legendary director John Cassavetes (I think she'd made a documentary beforehand). The major problem is it takes itself far too seriously and comes across as boring. I could be wrong and a little out of order for thinking it, but it felt to me like the filmmaker was just slumming it in the horror genre with this, till something better comes along. Another little thing that pissed me off was all changes to the vampire myths like being able to look out at children playing in the sun or having their reflections cast in mirrors, all for no apparent reason.

All thats a shame because the actings pretty good for a vampire yarn, none of the cast was familiar other than the guy who played Peter Petrelli in 'Heroes' and Michael Rapaport (who again sucks, not sure whats happened to him but hes gone right off the talent scale). Plus it looked visually pleasing with fine use of vibrant colours. Likewise it sounds great, with a neat retro sounding throwback to 70's Italian horror scores by composer Steven Hufsteter. Only one way to score this, right down the middle with 2 and half.

[PRFR: Personal Reasons For Remembering]

Wayward Mimi (Roxane Mesquida) screwing and feeding on who she damned well pleases, sure it helped a little she lost her clothing more than once or twice.
