Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, 2013 - ★★½

REVIEWED

“But who's to say you can't get shit on your fist?” - Alan Partridge (Steve Coogan)

Radio Norwich as had a corporate take over. The new owners aiming at a younger crowd, sack old d-jock Pat Farrell. Not taking the news well, Pat takes over the station holding the employees and new owners hostage. Alan who managed to flee the scene originally, somehow gets sent back in by the police siege squad to mediate a safe outcome... they clearly didn't know Alan well enough.

It was great seeing the regulars like Geordie Michael & Lynn again, but sadly the immensely talented Steve Coogan & Armando Iannucci big screen offering of 'Alan Partridge' was painfully mediocre at best. Like the classic rock/top gear loving character himself, the concept & comedy is really starting to show its age. Sure I laughed at a few gags but not nearly enough to warrant a 90 minute movie. Partridges finest moment was bringing him back from his stint on network television, where he'd been a chat show & sporting news presenter as the lonely broken man in 'I'm Alan Partridge', when you glanced bits of his void like personal life, sadly the film offered so few moments like that.

[Personal Reasons For Remembering]

Damn no Chris Morris, David Schneider or Sally Phillips cameos which I was expecting. TBH not much springing to mind, Alans ride to work singing Cuddly Toy was pretty amusing, and the story about the PE teacher just toweling the boys down was probably its funniest segment, hes now hiring out bouncy castles... hopefully for adults.
