..::Dissociative December - A Cold Month Of Mind Control::..
“This is the sounds of your voice...” - Rogers inner voice (Vincent Gallo)
Stockholm 2024 daily life as become a soulless grey formality. Sick of just going through the accepted motions Roger starts to question his hum drum existence, and the inner voice that seems to be at odds with his own opinions. While riding the metro he chance encounters an advertisement actress he recognizes. On a momentary whim he follows her, and she ends leading him through a white rabbit hole of paranoia and conspiracy, surrounding secretive corporations oppressively controlling all human life via the products we use. Including the sinister shampoo 'Dangst' Rogers been using daily... even though hes bald!.
Though flawed Tarik Saleh's 'Metropia' makes for a refreshingly unique Orwellian slice of future shock. Its an animated feature from Sweden, that mixes scanned live action humans with CGI. This gives the films characters the peculiar appearance of looking like bobblehead dolls. I guess given the plot they're meant to appear like controlled marionettes.
I'm not sure if its a technique that really works in the films favor or not, but hey at least its different right?. The voice acting featuring Vincent Gallo as the Moby lookalike Roger, Juliette Lewis as the Miss Penelope looking Nina and Udo Kier as the manipulative Big Brother obsessed Corp CEO is nothing special. While the music is sparsely used, what little there is, is cool sounding dark electronica.
[Personal Reasons For OBEYING]
Metropia is brimming with the old subliminal mind control, some of the ones I noticed included
[x] Poster: Listen To The Inner You - film contains scientists able to speak directly as your minds inner voice
[x] The Most Basic Form of Mind Control is Repetition - Roger actually uses the technique on himself to block out the inner voice Nothing, Nothing, Nothing.
[x] I Think We're Alone Now - Agents viewing citizens in their homes via CCTV through their television sets, remember kids keep smiling & fully clothed when using that xbox one.
[x] Corporate cover up suicide (need to see this scene again it was brief but in there when they zip a body bag up)
[x] Crazy Products - Buy Dangst... The 'Angst' inducing organic shampoo
[x] Monarch Control - We see a butterfly when we learn the mysterious Nina is corporate head Ivan Bahns daughter.
