A chronicle of the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members.
Stunning reinvention of original Trek from Lost guru J.J. Abrams, that charters the Enterprise's crew from childhood up to their first adventure together. Has detailed back stories for both captain Kirk & Spock and how they team up with the rest of the crew Uhura, McCoy, Sulu, Chekov and Scotty. Without giving real spoilers the basic plot concerns an attempt by Romulan villain Nero to wipe out the Vulcan race while forcing Spock helplessly to look on unable to aid them.
The central characters are handled with the upmost respect, Captain James T Kirk (Chris Pine) is rebellious and brash, Spock (gloriously played by Zachary Quinto of Heroes) is intelligent yet emotionless, Uhura (Zoe Saldana) oozes sex appeal, Scotty (Simon Pegg In a role that was most likely a dream come true) is amusing but still dependable. The cast gets to deliver most the classic Trek phrases as well like "Live long, and Prosper" and "Are you out of your Vulcan mind?" the one notable exception is the absence of "Beam me up Scotty". The action is done in true blockbuster style and the overall production manages to capture the tos feel yet still manages to update it for the new millennium, I am sure Gene Roddenberry would of been proud with the outcome. So glad to hear they plan on boldly trekking some more with the announced Untitled Star Trek Sequel planned for (2011). Essential viewing for trekkers, Sci-Fi fans and anyone seeking an entertaining two hours.
