\o/ Gimme a D... gimme a M... gimme a T... whatcha got! the ultimate metaphysical psychedelic drug known to mankind. The Spirit Molecule is a film document of Dr. Rick Strassman's 70's research into dimethyltryptamine aka DMT, thats a compound found within every living organism. Its been used for aions by tribes across the Amazon, they've found when its used in correct doses it gives an LSD like hallucinogenic trip, that many believe to be a spiritual journey, that the human standard perception isn't yet evolved enough to witness without taking.
We've all seen movies like 'Altered States' and 'Enter the Void', hell some of us have even wigged out at festivals to the odd halucigenic drug right ? so for most part the Spirit Molicule makes for an interesting documentary featuring interviews with psychologists, writers, pharmacologists and spiritualists. Trouble is its packed with so much psychobabble I wasn't sure what I felt after viewing. Joe Rogan's kitsch b&w mock retro science interludes really fell flat on their ass, as did the somewhat creepy Rabbi Joel Bakst, who really knew how to confuse the fuck outta the viewer with statements on everything being connected like fractals. Ohh and all that god damn awful 80's looking 3D computer generated shit did it zero favors either.
All that said some of the people interviewed made great points like behavioral pharmocologist Roland Griffiths, writer Graham Hancock and the wonderfully laid back Jerry Garcia esq. mathematician Ralph Abraham (why couldn't he have taught me math).
[PRFR: Personal Reasons For Remembering]
I'll be honest I would be interested in trying DMT just to see for myself. But like peyote I've heard its extremely hard to lay your hands on here in the UK, so doubt I'll ever get the opportunity (guess its microdots & shrooms again at Glastonbury this year then). Anyway, if nothing else this documentary will likely be the closest I ever come to DMT.
