Viewed as part of my Beware the Docs of March Marathon 1. Jean-Louis van Belle's Forbidden Paris aka Paris Interdit is an amusingly light French entry into Mondo genre movies. The bulk of the content like most shockumentary's is clearly staged, but it does contain a few authentic segments like one with shaman and human pin cushion Ben-Ghou-Bey.
Not a bad time killer, just lacks any true shock value. Its surprisingly tame for most part, almost like a Disney made Mondo. Though it does contain loads of boobies like you'd expect from anything French. The mostly jazz soundtrack only adds to the lightness. It reminded me of a 90 minute retro version of 'Euro Trash'. The more bizarre moments include Nazi Hitler worshipers, horse killing and drinking of the blood and a pet taxidermist. It ends with a really mild staged orgy, organized by a clearly fake apocalypse cult.
