"20$!... go down to super value buy a pork chop and fuck that."

Hooker

Viewed as part of my Beware the Docs of March Marathon 1. Stark fly on the wall documentary following a set of prostitutes, who apply their trade on Vancouver's seedy Davie St.

Female filmmakers Janis Cole & Holly Dale (who later made the great indie horror 'Blood & Donuts' with Cronenberg) managed to craft a brilliant docu, with a subject thats been covered so many times since but rarely so honestly. One of my personal favorite exploitation flicks as always been the teenage hooker (Donna Wilkes) movie 'Angel', basicly because it showed the characters as genuine people, who share a common working camaraderie between themselves. 'Hookers on Davie St.' works exactly like a real version of that, showing the prostitutes both chicks and trannies, during and inbetween their night shifts. They each speak candidly about their life and up bringing, keeping Davie St pimp free and trying to curb child prostitution.

"Right now I'm a freak to society... but the moneys good"

Transsexual Michelle

[PRFR: Personal Reasons For Remembering]

Laughing at the queen who looked like Kevin Bacon. Transsexual Michelle bitch fighting in a bar with a hooker friend. And Michelle's clearly loving mother bringing a lump to my throat discusing them being real people with feelings.
