“Congratulations son, you almost didn't make it.” - Military Dr. (Lewis Hodgson)

Science and Progress... After a zombie outbreak, a temporary cure was found to help the infected return to normal everyday living, so long as they keep taking injections every 36 hours. Only a terrorist unit hell bent on wiping out the returned, destroy the source of the cure. Leaving dwindling time to find an alternative treatment before the returned turn into zombies.

The Returned manages to breath fresh life into a dying genre. Its another in the growing list of intelligent, visually great modern horror movies coming out of Spain/Canada distributed by the wonderful Filmax. I use the term modern horror lightly because excluding the fact the plots infection is zombie based, the story plays more like a medical thriller than all out horror. I've not caught the director Manuel Carballo's output before, but I'll try dig out his earlier stuff and keep my eyes on what hes involved with in the future.

[Personal Reasons For Remembering]

Spending the first half of the movie wondering who the lead actor playing Alex 'Kris Holden-Ried' reminded me of. Then spending the final half singing Coldplay songs. Strangely they really fitted with the mood of the dying relationship between Alex and Kate, the films central characters.
