A lonely metermaid has a psychotic reaction to his medication and becomes convinced he's a superhero. A very select group of people in life are truly gifted. Special is a movie about everyone else.
Michael Rapaport is fantastic in this dark comedy yarn playing socially awkward loner Les, who signs up to trial a new super drug. The drugs meant to cure anxiety and stop the taker from worrying too much about their actions. Only Les as an adverse reaction and starts to feel hes developing super powers like the ones found in the comic books he never grew out of reading. The films beauty is how underplayed and human Rapaport plays Les, for a long period everyone around him just think he's goofing around until he starts to hurt himself and those around him. Recommended to anyone who enjoys offbeat comedy, fits nicely with the current wave of slacker anti hero films like Defendor,Kick-ass and soon to be released Super.(8 out of 10)
