'Another King/Darabont tour de force. This time in a more typical King themed horror tale, than the previous two adaptations Shawshank/Green Mile. It's the story of small storm hit town just outside of Portland that has a strange mist fall upon it. Anyone entering the mist fails to return. We follow a group of town’s folk who are held up in the local supermarket. These include various members the stores staff also a famous artist and his young son, a crazy religious woman, and a few soldiers from the local army base. Turns out there are a whole host of other worldly creatures within the mist, everything from giant spider and locust like insects to 10 storey high Cthulhu-esq tentacled beasts. It's a great ripping yarn and creature feature the like of which we just don't see enough of these days, glossy production values with flawless FX work, also sports a good strong cast. The stories very comic book/pulp science fiction book feeling with a nice poise in its story arch, from the town’s folk first thinking they've been hit by a natural disaster then to something more supernatural. One of its minor flaws to me was though it’s an important angle to the plot I could have done with maybe 10 or so minutes less of the religious babble, seemed to go on a bit long and started to feel a touch labored. That said I doubt I'll see a more entertaining creature feature all year and nice to get a film both I and my kids enjoyed together. Cultdb signs up now for the next King/Darabont feature and can’t wait, be great to see the Dark Tower series given a chance on the big or little screen.'
