Female Demon Ohyaku (1967)Director: Yoshihiro Ishikawa
Writer: Kôji Takada
Okyaku's hatred burns bright--the lady with the demon tattoo will have her vengeance! The stunning Junko Miyazono stars in the first entry of the LEGENDS OF THE POISONOUS SEDUCTRESS series, FEMALE DEMON OHYAKU, as a quiet actress wrongly sent to prison and pushed by her tormentors to the point of no return. With a demon tattoo splayed across her back and a sword in her hand, she embarks on a crusade of vengeance against all those who have wronged her, laying waste to man and woman alike in her quest for bloody retribution. Featuring tattooing, beheadings, and merciless torture, "Ohyaku" is a gruesome Pinky Violence classic that proved highly influential on later series of sexy action films from Toei Studios in the 1970s.
'Great to see Synapse are continuing the Pinky Violence Collection this one ’Female Demon Ohyaku’ with the sub headed title ‘the Legends of the Poisonous Seductress’ is the first of a trilogy of films about the life of the beautiful but deadly Ohyaku. She’s a women fueled with anger at the male’s in power her back stories told that she’s the daughter of a prostitute who killed herself by jumping from a bridge while holding Ohyaku as a baby. She’s left with a scar on her back from this and instead of serving men as her mother and the other women around her do she chooses to seduce them and steal their money. All until she meets a kindred spirit in Shin who’s also got reason for hating the local authority. They form an unlikely partnership as bandits (almost like a samurai version of Robin Hood). Only they’re double crossed and Shin is beheaded while Ohyaku is sent to prison island of Sado. Swearing revenge on those who wronged her Ohyaku is now forced to fend for herself on an island full of rapists and criminals. Thankfully she catches the eye of the islands caretaker and his lesbian wife and given special privileges as long as she agrees for the wife to tattoo and sleep with her. Here she’s given a tattoo to cover her back scar choosing a demons head. Not long after the tattoo is done the caretakers wife agrees to sell Ohyaku back to the man who had her sent there. Only Ohyaku finds out about the plan and fights back with the help of a fellow criminal she’s befriended on the island. It’s a wonderful first entry in the series this ones filmed in black and white but the next two entry’s are in color. Junko Miyazono is truly fantastic as Ohyaku the plots exploitative but not to the point of ever being crude. A little talky and I know there’s people out there who wouldn’t entertain watching a b&w subbed movie, but I was captivated from start to finish and comes highly recommend to lovers of Japanese cinema.'
